Boston Terrier Rescue of North Texas.
I love my job as a photographer; and an equally important love in my life is that of animal rescue. Over the years I have fostered many pups, of all breeds and ages for many rescue groups but the breed closest to my heart is the Boston Terrier. I have been a foster mum for the Boston Terrier Rescue of North Texas for seven years and every year the rescue sells a calendar to raise much needed funds to cover medical expenses for the many dogs they rescue.
It starts as an online auction to bid for the month you want your pup to appear on (also the cover which is the prized spot!). When the auction has finished the rescue send me the names, phone numbers and email addresses of the winning bidders. I then send out an email introducing myself and asking questions about the pup to be photographed (name, age, sex, medical issues, temperament, and ‘favourite thing to do’).
When I get all the responses I then contact everyone directly by phone and discuss options on dates, and the theme of the shoot. My goal with every shoot is to bring put the personality of the pup, and where possible to have an element of humour. This can be hard work, but with a little patience and gentle coaxing (and forward planning!) I usually get the shot I’m after. Control is the key, and especially when dealing with animals, you have to always know what the next step is. There’s no doubt that these sessions are lively, and great fun but once I have the shot I know will work we call it a day.
The calendar is one of the projects that I am most proud of, and such a worthwhile cause. Above are the wonderful pups of the 2017 calendar, along with the hilarious outtakes. Please support the BTRNT by purchasing a calendar as every penny goes to helping these wonderful dogs
